Base Currency

The base currency is the first currency in a currency pair. An exchange rate quote is the amount of the terms currency that would be exchanged for one unit of the base currency. The base currency is also sometimes referred to as the transaction currency.

The terms currency is the second currency in a currency pair. An exchange rate quote is the amount of the terms currency that would be exchanged for one unit of the base currency. The terms currency is also referred to as the countercurrency, quote currency or the secondary currency.
